The Breeding Power Formula

Every Pal in Palworld has a hidden numeric value called its Breeding Power (also referred to as Breeding Rank or Breeding Stat). These values range from 10 to 1,500 and are fixed by the game's developers — they don't change based on your Pal's level or stats.

When two Pals breed, the game calculates the offspring using this formula:

Child Breeding Power = floor((Parent 1 Power + Parent 2 Power) / 2)

The game then finds whichever Pal has a Breeding Power closest to that result — and that's your offspring. Our calculator implements this exact logic, including all rounding and tie-breaking rules, so results are always accurate.

Special Combinations Override the Formula

Some Pals — particularly Fusion Pals and rare variants — can only be obtained through specific, hardcoded parent pairings that completely bypass the Breeding Power formula. Examples include:

• Mossanda Lux — requires Mossanda + Grizzbolt
• Shadowbeak — requires Kitsun + Astegon
• Frostallion Noct — requires Frostallion + Helzephyr
• Relaxaurus Lux — requires Relaxaurus + Sparkit
• Mau Cryst — requires Mau + Hangyu Cryst

Passive Skill Inheritance

This is where Palworld breeding gets truly deep. When two Pals breed, the offspring can inherit passive skills from either parent. The inheritance rules:

• A child can inherit up to 4 passive skills
• Each passive slot has roughly a 40% chance to inherit from a parent's pool, and a 60% chance to be a random mutation
• The more desired passives exist across both parents, the higher your odds of getting the combination you want
• Rare and powerful passives like Legend (+20% all stats) can only be passed down from Legendary Pals — they cannot be obtained through random mutation

The ideal strategy is chain breeding: building a multi-generation sequence where each generation carries more of your target passives, narrowing down variance with every step.

IV (Individual Value) Breeding

In addition to passive skills, each Pal has hidden IV stats for Attack, Defense, and HP — each ranging from 0 to 100. Higher IVs mean a stronger Pal at max level.

• Each stat has a 30% chance to inherit from Parent 1 and a 30% chance from Parent 2
• The remaining 40% is a random mutation
• The chance of a child inheriting perfect IVs in all three stats from two perfect parents is approximately 21.6%
• IV Fruits can be used to lock desired IVs before breeding, significantly improving efficiency

Most experienced players recommend securing your desired passive skills first, then optimizing IVs — since passive skills are harder to fix after the fact.

To find what two Pals produce together:

• Select Parent 1 from the Pal list
• Select Parent 2 from the Pal list
• Click Calculate — the offspring appears instantly, including any special Fusion variants

To reverse-lookup parents for a target Pal:

• Switch to Reverse Lookup mode
• Select your target offspring
• See every valid parent combination, sorted by accessibility

To plan a passive skill chain:

• Open the Chain Breeding tab
• Enter your starting Pal and your target Pal + desired passive skills
• Get the full multi-generation breeding tree with step-by-step instructions

Prioritize Passives Before IVs

Passive skills have a much greater impact on Pal performance than IVs, and they're harder to correct after the fact. Always lock in your desired passive combination first through chain breeding, then use IV Fruits to boost stats on your final Pal.

Use Same-Species Breeding to Stack Passives

Breeding two of the same Pal species always produces the same species as offspring. This lets you consolidate passive skills from two parents into one child, increasing your passive count without changing the Pal you're working toward.

Build Your Breeding Colony Around Utility Pals

Before attempting complex multi-generation chains, build a stock of versatile mid-tier Pals — Bushi, Penking, Katress, Anubis, Grizzbolt — that appear in many breeding formulas. Having these on hand dramatically shortens the path to rare Pals.

Use Lucky Pals as Breeding Parents

Lucky Pals — the rare shiny variants with glowing particles — have enhanced stats and can pass those bonuses to offspring. Including a Lucky Pal as a parent whenever possible gives you a free stat boost on your bred offspring.

Understand the Alpha Breeding Chance

Every breeding result has a 5% chance to produce an Alpha variant of the offspring species. Alpha Pals are significantly stronger than standard versions. You don't need to do anything special — simply breed more to increase your odds of rolling that 5%.
